The Best Tool To Visualize Rhythm

Have you ever heard someone say something along the lines of, “oh, people are just born with rhythm or without it – you either have it or you don’t”? It’s a common misconception that people with good rhythm or feel are somehow accessing something innate or otherwise unobtainable to others.

The truth is that rhythm is at its heart a set of rules just as much as it is a feeling. If you can visualize and understand the concepts of rhythm, you’ll be able to practice the fundamentals and develop the feel that may have seemed impossible before!

A great way to go about this is to imagine rhythm being laid out like a yardstick. From your base pulse you can split rhythms in half to get finer divisions, ending up with what’s commonly referred to as a grid. In this lesson you’ll be learning to isolate and practice these grid lines along with a metronome to give you a crazy good feel!
