The classic blues song Killing Floor, by Howlin’ Wolf. Famously covered by Led Zeppelin in “The Lemon Song.” Legend has it, this is the song that Jimi Hendrix used to dethrone the current king of guitar – Eric Clapton. Clapton came to see this new American guitarist Jimi Hendrix live in London. He came in when Jimi was playing Killing Floor, and apparently Clapton’s ego was completely crushed. Clapton was no longer “God.”

The basic original version of this song is not that challenging though! So don’t get scared off by that intro. Hendrix and Zeppelin play a version of this song that is very different than the original – they play it way faster!

This song will get you crushing a 12 bar blues, it will get alternate picking happening in your right hand, but most importantly you’ll be playing an essential piece of blues history. Enjoy!
