How To Teach Yourself To Play Guitar
Do you want to know the one key shortcut to learning your favourite songs on the guitar? That’s exactly what we’re going to be talking about in today’s lesson!
It starts with laying out a list of exactly what songs you want to learn on the guitar. Pick the songs that always get you reaching for the volume knob to turn it up, the songs that you sing along to in the car. These are likely the songs that made you want to play guitar in the first place, and once you have them in a list, you can listen to them over and over again to get them burned into your memory, which will really help when it comes time to learn to play them!
When it comes to actually learning these songs on the guitar, it’s good to first know the 3 ways humans learn things – Auditory (by hearing and listening), Visually (by seeing and watching), and Kinaesthetically (hands on and doing). Taking this a step further, there are 4 ways that we as guitarists specifically learn songs – with TABS/sheet music, through videos (like this one!), in 1-to-1 lessons, and learning by ear. The real key secret though is to blend these 4 sources together to fast track your learning!
